AEROSPACE WORKFORCE READINESS CENTER

Location: Auburn, Washington
Support: 15 kV Power Distribution system

Project Description

A leading aerospace manufacturer selected Casne Engineering as the electrical and controls design firm and integrator for design and construction support of a new training center. The project included a new double-ended substation connected to the 15 kV power distribution system serving the company’s existing campus. Casne also designed the building’s electrical systems, including power distribution, an emergency power system with automatic transfer equipment and a dedicated generator, building monitoring and control systems, a fully integrated lighting control system, and related infrastructure.

The first floor of the two-story facility was designed as an open-bay industrial training environment, allowing large equipment to be installed, operated, and used for hands-on training. Casne supported the design and installation of a flexible power distribution system intended to accommodate future changes in equipment layout and training needs. This included column-mounted power distribution, a large electrical room, and a centralized data room. Casne also supported the design and installation of equipment serving the training space, including relocated equipment from other campus facilities and new equipment installed specifically for the building.

The first floor also included a segregated medical space to replace an existing campus medical facility. The medical area was designed with components typical of a medical clinic, including nurse work areas, examination and analysis rooms, specialized treatment rooms, and emergency access for ambulance drop-off and pick-up.

The second floor was designed to support classroom and collaborative functions, including training classrooms, a computer lab, collaboration areas, a cafeteria, and related support spaces. Casne designed the associated data and power distribution systems, including floor penetrations and floor boxes for power and data, a second-floor electrical room, a second-floor data room, and supporting infrastructure.

Casne performed a lighting control system analysis to support the client’s selection and implementation of a full-building lighting control system serving interior spaces and exterior perimeter areas. The final system provides flexible control options for varied space types and supports the project’s requirements for achieving LEED Silver classification.

During commissioning, Casne Engineering supported installation and startup of multiple building systems. This included the substation, generator, automatic transfer switches, and power distribution systems, as well as building monitoring and control systems, HVAC interfaces, elevator power and controls, fire alarm systems, grounding, process metering, lighting controls, and related systems.
