Project Description
The University of Washington selected Casne to support campus-wide low and medium-voltage critical system upgrades. Casne provided the design of the multi-phased, multi-year project to replace hazardous electrical cables, switchgear, transformers, and panelboards. Many of the existing 13.8kV transformers switches contained PCBs and asbestos, and cables were over 40 years old with lead sheathing. These systems were deemed a potential environmental problem. Meticulous installation and removal details were developed as part of the construction drawings to instruct and identify to the contractor the exact scope of work, routing of cabling, and construction sequencing schedules. To mitigate impacts on the building occupants, emergency generation power was provided during construction, where the phasing of the electrical installation work would not allow for a short enough power interruption.
