Digital Transformation Journey for Mining and Power Generation

Having been its trusted partner for almost a decade, Vistra Corp worked with Casne Engineering once more in 2021 to kick-start one of its mining sites' digital transformation journey. The project provides better analytics and decision-making from data collected from existing data reporting systems. Challenges that were addressed included: 

Siloed data and delayed reporting

Limited visibility into critical asset performance to make fact-based real-time decisions

Manual reporting processes with no single version of the truth

Every change to existing reporting tools required hiring a developer

The site’s goal was to implement a centralized data warehouse to monitor critical assets in real-time and enable the dispatch office to optimize the production operations and respond quickly to issues. Scope of work included integration of  four (4) data sources into a centralized PI historian and buildout of AF, Analytics, Notifications, and PI Vision displays around several critical use cases, including: loader and shovel wait time, dragline RSLs, dozer utilization, product quality, operational productivity, and maintenance and reliability.

Casne worked with the site SMEs to design and develop visualizations, analytics, and reports for the site to monitor all critical equipment from the dispatch office in real time. In addition, automated reports were also developed to report twice a day on production KPIs and other critical metrics. This project has enabled the site to improve visibility into site operations to make real-time fact-based decisions. The site has also been able to optimize their processes and automate manual reporting processes.
